Before COVID, the Troop would go on a January ski trip to Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley, NC. We’re planning to go again in January over MLK weekend, January 13 – 15.
This location allows participants to choose between skiing or snowboarding (one or the other). The Troop will pay the cost for Scouts to ski or snowboard, including their equipment and clothing rental (but they still have to get goggles, gloves, and a warm jacket). Parents/siblings are not covered by the Troop. Additionally, there will still be hotel, food, and Sunday event expenses.
At last count, we have 24 people signed up to ski/snowboard and 27 going. We are staying on Friday and Saturday night at [Meadowlark Motel]. They are giving us a group rate of $143/night (including taxes/fees). For anyone who already has signed-up, Jean Hilyard will be reaching out about the hotel costs/payment.
On Friday night they have Karaoke and on Saturday night they have free BBQ and live music – young people are welcome. The group will have an outing (TBD, including cost) on Sunday morning/afternoon and head back to town after that. If you have ideas on a specific outing/activity, please bring it up with Jean!
If anyone else wants to go, you can still sign-up through October 31.
Again, Jean Hilyard is coordinating this event, so you will need to let her know once you’ve signed-up. She then can add you/your Scout to the reservation.
