All Scouts and their families are invited to a five-mile hike at Vogel State Park (Blairsville, GA) on Saturday, November 6.
We will meet at the Vogel State Park parking lot (34.75984352559945, -83.93488031186139) at 9 am and expect to head back at dinner time. Please note, the numbers in red are the precise parking lot geo-coordinates. You can copy and paste this complete string of latitude and longitude numbers into your smart phone’s map navigation app.
Our overall destination for the hike is the Vogel Overlook. That is marked on the topographical map of Vogel [here] (it’s at the end of the tiny loop on the top of the mountain). To get there, we will follow the Bear Hair Trail up from the parking lot.
The Bear Hair Trail is 4.1 miles. We’ll likely do an up and back version rather than the entire trail. By adding a bit of the Coosa Trail and going through the pioneer campsite, we will make the full 5 miles to fulfill the requirement.
We will cook lunch in the pioneer campsite (if possible) using one of the existing fire pits in that area. If not there, we will find another appropriate area.
A sign-up sheet has been created, so anyone interested should go ahead and fill out the form linked below.
A sign-up genius will be sent for all to sign-up to help with the food/fire items.
Additionally, we plan to complete skills practice sessions before the hike during the upcoming Troop meetings on October 26 and November 2. These sessions will help the Scouts be well prepared to earn multiple Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements during hike.
