Cooking Merit Badge (MB) Day is Sunday, October 6 from 1-4 pm at the Scout Hut. You can sign-up to participate by filling out the form below.
The Cooking MB is required for Eagle and helps build a skill set that everyone can use.
The badge can take a long time to complete. Scouts are required to plan, purchase, prepare and cook multiple meals at home, at camp and on the trail. We may hold some ‘pot-luck’ cooking events to help Scouts complete the cooking requirements in a timely manner. Scouts should read the requirements carefully and discuss ideas with your MB counselor. To
make sure Scouts get credit, it’s discouraged to do a bunch of cooking without talking to your counselor.
The best way to manage your progress is with the Cooking MB worksheet. It’s a very long worksheet and can seem a little daunting. However, it’s the best way to organize your plans, receipts, reviews and keep track of what you need to do.

The goal of Cooking MB Day is to complete all of the discussion points. We’ll cover health & safety, nutrition, cooking methods, and careers. Scouts need to come prepared to discuss – Cooking MB day is not a lecture.
In addition to the worksheet, Scouts are encouraged to use the Cooking MB pamphlet. We have some older pamphlets in the Scout Hut that can be used.
Also check out the following website for advice and helpful links:
Again, it’s important to read the requirements carefully. Although many ranks and other merit badges require cooking, the requirements are not the same. Plans and meals used for ranks (and other merit badges) cannot be used for Cooking MB.
We will complete the following Requirements, but you must come prepared to discuss:
1a, b, c, d, e; 2a, b, c, d, e; 3a, b, c; 7
Scouts can complete 2c before or after the meeting: Track your daily level of activity and your daily caloric need based on your activity for five days. Then, based on the MyPlate food guide, discuss with your counselor an appropriate meal plan for yourself for one day.
The remaining 3 sets of requirements are all about actual cooking – at home (Req 4), at camp (Req 5), on the trail (Req 6).
We will not do any actual cooking at MB day.
