Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for ways to volunteer in the community? Need service hours for your next rank? You have come to the right place. Whether you are looking for a one-time event or something that is reoccurring, you can find some ideas below. These events are approved by the Scoutmaster as qualified service hours. If you have a suggestion to add to the list, please reach out to Beau Grant.

One-Time Opportunities

These are upcoming volunteer opportunities available to Scouts. They may or may not be coordinated at the Troop level and are “one-time” events.

  1. Sweep the Hooch
    • Date: March 22
    • Location: 14 different locations
    • Time: 9 am – 12 pm
    • High Level Details: This is an annual watershed-wide trash cleanup that brings together hundreds of volunteers each year at dozens of parks, tributaries, and access points along the Chattahoochee River. This would be conservation service hours.

  2. Johns Homestead Service Day (a.k.a. – Spring Into Action)
    • Date: March 23
    • Location: Johns Homestead – 3071 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA
    • Parking: Available @ Rehoboth Baptist Church
    • Time: 2 – 4 pm
    • High Level Details: Volunteers will be pulling ivy and/or weeds. This would be conservation service hours.

Standing Opportunities

These are standing volunteer opportunities available to Scouts. They are not coordinated at the Troop level.

  1. Great Banquet Service Hours
    • Upcoming Date(s): January 15 & 29, February 12 – 26, March 12 & 26, April 9 & 23, May 7 & 14, June 11, July 9, August 13
    • Location: Main Street Church – Fellowship Hall (attached to church gym)
    • Time: ~4 – 6:30 pm (not required to work entire time to participate)
    • High Level Details: A service for disabled adults. Scouts would be setting up for the dinner, serving food and cleaning up.

  2. Arabia Mountain Volunteer Stewardship Day
    • Upcoming Date(s): First Saturday of Each Month
    • Location: Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center – Stonecrest, GA, USA Stonecrest, GA 30038
    • Time: Variable, but is usually 3 hours of conservation service
    • High Level Details: Scouts can help improve the health and beauty of Arabia Mountain. Join Arabia Rangers in removing invasive plants, removing trash, mulching trails, and similar activities. They provide tools, but BYO gloves and water. Scouts are encouraged to carpool with other Scouts.
